Review by a member of the John Deere family.
Have recently purchased a new John Deere tractor and have found the tractor to be an outstanding piece of equipment. Was very curious on how the tractor was made. The book is a must read for anyone who owns a John Deere tractor or is intending to purchase one. The questions that I had were all answered. The book is well done and a very good interesting read.

Lackawanna: A Novel
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (March, 1986)
Author: Chester Aaron
Average review score:

A Great Juvenile Novel Similar to Stand By Me
This is one of the best Depression-Era stories involving a youth group that I have read or seen on Film. This book has FILM ME written all over it. It is a story of a group of young kids that hop railroad cars during the height of the Depression and learn the struggles of the real world as they battle hobos and truth, while they eventually recognize the need to be loved is a truth that cannot be defeated.

It is available in most larger libraries, usually in good condition or better.

Life With the Little People (Frank Waters Memorial Publication Series , No 3)
Published in Paperback by Greenfield Review Press (July, 1998)
Authors: Robert J. Perry and Chester Scott
Average review score:

Wonderful book!
I love the author's style of writing. The book contains the stories about the Little People, the Steel-lo-booch-go-gee that were told among generations. The author uses the storytelling device to present the stories. I was fascinated by the stories of the Little People and their connection to children and healing. I would highly recommend this book. I couldn't put it down.

A Love So Wild
Published in Hardcover by Ulverscroft Large Print Books (June, 1992)
Author: Deborah Chester
Average review score:

One of my favorites
Ok, I absolutely love this book. I can't tell you why, but I just adore the story. It's one of those books you can't put down and you really just wish you were living it with them, in the heroine's place, with the guy, and you finish the book with a silly grin on your face. The dialogue is slightly cheesy sometimes and you pretty much know what's going to happen, but it's worth the ride. One of those guilty little pleasures. I'm not crazy about the title, makes it sound like a Harlequin romance novel, which it isn't. Read it, it's great fun.

Main Street to Miracle Mile : American roadside architecture
Published in Unknown Binding by Little, Brown ()
Author: Chester H. Liebs
Average review score:

Excellent social history of American cities in 20th century.
"Main Street to Miracle Mile" is an excellent introduction to the development of American cities in this century. What's more, it takes what could be a dull topic and makes it lively by looking at such structures as gas stations, motels, and shopping centers and showing how the changes in the architecture of these businesses reflect the changes that were taking place in American society. Good photographs from many parts of America illustrate the impact a more mobile population has had on the location, size, and design of the buildings that serve us. While this book has been used as a text for college classes, it also can be very enjoyable for the casual reader.

Moose: The Story of a Very Special Person
Published in Paperback by Brookline Books (November, 1992)
Authors: W. Scott MacDonald, Chester W. Oden, and Scott MacDonald
Average review score:

A touching story of a boy with Downs
I read this book many years ago, but still remember vividly how touched I was by the author's sensitive and loving description of the life of his son (the subject of the book). It is a poignant tale of one family and how they have come to deal with Downs Syndrome. I was especially impressed by the fact that this family chose to keep their child and raise him, rather than institutionalizing him, as so often (tragically) happens. This book renews one's faith in the values of responsibility, love and family.

A very interesting and well written book
I was a former student of Chester Finn's at Vanderbilt and a big fan of his writing. This along with Senator Lamar Alexander, is an extremely well written and interesting book. Gives a perspective that many should consider. I highly recommend it.
